Mostly everything was handmade by me. So worth all of the time! The kids played more with the shanty town than they did on the playground! Shayne was so excited that sheriff woody could make it to his party!

My Best Friends Wedding

MY BEST FRIEND IS MARRIED!!!!!

welcome to the club Melissa!

Melissa and I have been best friends since the 7th grade. We even kinda knew eachother in 2nd technically. We used to play together on the jungle gym before I switched elem. schools and we were happily reunited in Mrs. Mugia's Jr. High science class. We're pretty much inseperable. We still talk on the phone every day like teenagers. It's so much more fun to do when you're supposed to be working haha. Melissa and her new Hubby Chris are my son's godparents. (Shayne got to be the ringbearer) They always spoil him rotten. What kind of kid get a Halloween gift?? My kid. I love Chris and Melissa, and I'm so happy for them! However, I already told Chris that Melissa is keeping her maiden name. It's too hard to learn a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They had a wonderfull wedding!!!!

This is my Shaynie giving puppy kisses to the flower girl..............ewwww sorry val. Marissa doesn't seem to care though!!!!!!

I SUCK

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...................

wow, I suck at keeping up with this blogging thing. I put everything up on facebook. But blogging is so much better! I really need to get into a better habit of doing it. I also need to get into the habit of actually telling people about my blog lol. I wanted to use it for family to see what I'm up to..... yet I haven't told a single family member lol. ANYWAY I have sooooooo.... or should I say SEW much to do! Lots of costumes to make before Halloween! I love Halloween. I'll put pics as they are completed. Here's what I'm working on:

Bridal Robe for my bff Melissa (DONE) perfect for when she was getting her hair/makup done!
Newborn size lion costume for my nephew Emerson (almost done) needs a fitting and then I can finish it
Adult size "toothless the dragon" mascot costume to appear at my nephew Landon's 5th Bday party
Adult Saloon girl costume for my sister Katie
Adult Rapunzel costume add on piece for work
Adult sexy pink tube dress for a sexy energizer bunny costume for my friend melanie
Wendy costume for me
Cap'n Hook costume for my hubs
peterpan costume for Shayne
tink costume for Lylah
maybe a thor costume for my hubs
and maybe a sexy peacock costume for me.

as you can see I have SEW much work to do. I'm exhausted! Tomorrow I'm starting the dragon head. Wish me luck!!!!

A few weeks back we went Apple Picking with the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had fun, not so much anyone else though. I take that back. Shayne had fun. Nathan was pretty miserable, Lylah didn't care. LOL

I guess I had visions of grandure in my head about our apple picking photo shoot. I expected a grassy shady flat orchard. We got a dry, dirty, hot, sweaty, push a stroller up and down hill (well Nathan did- hence his miserableness) exhausting treck for apples that are cheaper to buy in the store.

BUT- I got alot of good pictures, and I think it was something fun and new to try. \

NEXT TIME- researching the orchard before I drive out there.

HERE ARE SOME PICS!!!

Visiting Grandma Burke

Last month ( I know I take forever to post) I took my son and daughter to AZ to see my grandma. We met my Dad and his wife Nancy there. Let start from the beginning.....

THE 5 HOUR DRIVE

Well, I guess they did ok for a 2 year old and a 5 month old. Lots of crying. I bought Shayne a Buzz Lightyear toy to keep him occupied, and it worked!
It was great spending time with my Grandma . Dad and Nancy too. I love listening to my grandmas stories. She even showed me her wedding pictures! Her wedding dress only cost her $5! Amazing!
Shayne had a good time too, he got to go swimming with his grandpa for the first time. They were playing Shark. Oh and Buzz lightyear of course :)

Over the river and through the desert.....

......To grandmother's house we go! I'm taking Shayne and Lylah to AZ to see my grandma. by myself. without my hubs. Normally that wouldn't be such a big deal, until you consider that Shayne is 2 and Lylah is 5 months old...... we'll see how this trip goes! I've packed the car with toys and snacks and movies to keep Shaynie entertained. Hopefully they both just sleep for 5 hours..... not like likely! Anyway, I'm just excited to spend some time with my grandma. I only get to see her every few years and she is 91 years old. Wish me a safe trip and keep the kiddos and I in ur prayers! I'm going to miss my hubs, but I'm excited to miss him too. It's not often that we're apart, and distance makes the heart grow fonder right? Can't wait for Friday to give him a big HELLO hug. (wayyyy better than goodbye hugs by the way :).

Car Seat Canopy

I've made so many of these at this point I don't even need to refer back to the tutorial anymore. I just love them. They are sooooooo cute and they make fantastic baby shower gifts. Even better they can also be used as a playmat and nursing cover. Here are some of the ones I've made:

This one is a variation of the standard canopy. I added elastic around the bottom, made a peek a boo window complete with netting and subbed the ribbon ties for velcro straps. It came out super cute. The gifts were very appreciated

Anyway, they're great and you can find the instructions here: http://while-they-sleep.blogspot.com/2009/07/my-good-friend-beth.html

To Do Lists

I'm turning into my mother.....

I don't know what it is- maybe I'm turning into my mother. But for whatever reason, I can't start my day without a checklist. I don't know, maybe it just helps me clear the sleepy fog that invades my brain every morning. It's like my coffee. Anyway, whats taking over my to do lists at the moment is the Dr. Seuss themed baby shower I'm throwing for my sister in law Candace in June. It's going to be soooo cute. I can't wait to post some pictures on here. Anyway, not too much is new. My hubby has been in between job sites for about two weeks now. I have to admit, it is nice having him home. We get to do all the fun things we normally don't, like going to Disneyland on a very uncrowded Wednesday, hiking to the waterfall on mt baldy, and dropping the kids off at grammy's so we can go bowling with some friends and get some much needed adult only time. So it's been fun! Anyway, here's an update on the kiddos:

Shayne:

At two years nine months, you have a very extensive vocabulary, you are potty trained (you just learned to pee standing up and you don't want me in the bathroom anymore when you do it) and you are such a boy. You run around pretending to fly with your arms stretched out, stopping every so often to shoot blasts out of your hands like iron man or shooting lasers from your wrists like buzz lightyear. Such a big boy!

Lylah:

You are five months old! I can't believe how fast this is all going. It seemed to last so much longer with your brother, this babyhood thing. You are smiley all the time, such an easy baby. You are no longer nursing, which is a little bittersweet for mommy. You are almost crawling too! Scootching across the floor and even rocking back and forth on your hands and knees sometimes. I'm not ready for you to be so big!

I'm also wanting to work on a project for the kitchen. I'll post on the project when its finished!

Kiddos

Shayne, like any almost 3 year old boy, loves to jump and run and climb. Only he prefers to do so while wearing super hero masks. Right now he's running around the living room dressed up as batman, and insists that I wear the iron man mask haha. Yup sitting here typing wearing an iron mand mask. He cracks me up. I love him so much. Lylah loves him too! She just watches him and laughs. She tracks him around the room. I imagine her little neck gets tired from following him back and forth and up and down, hours on end. I can't wait for her to be able to jump and run and climb with him!

Welcome!

So.... I've given in and decided to start a blog. I always go on other people's, so I figured it was time to start my own. My name is Megan, creator of Bubblegum Brownies, I spend my time taking care of my 2 and a half year old son Shayne and my four month old daughter Lylah. I think my hubby is the sexiest guy alive (mostly beacuse he still puts up with me haha). I work for a children's entertainment company on the weekends. (www.alwaysjustforfun.com)
I love to sew, I make things all the time, whether its costumes for work, tutus or baby items, I'm always working on something! I also love to throw crafty semi- homemade birthday parties for my kids. I figure I can use this blog to brag about my kids and share my crafty endeavors!!!!!!!
Right now I'm working on some car seat canopys, I'll post pics soon!!!!!!!!
